On our recent visit to Spain we ventured into the mountains behind Benidorm. Dot and Colin joined us for the day and we set out for the day driving past Alicante and onto Benidorm. We then passed the Terra Mitica adventure park moving inland and climbing upwards through the village of Polop to our first stop at Font D’Algar.
We enjoyed a few hours strolling through the village and falls, and of course enjoying a refreshing drink at one of the local restaurants. Pictures are in the Font D’Algar page.
Our journey took us upwards deeper into the mountains.
After a spectacular drive through twisting roads we came across the amazing Moorish fort and town of Guadalest. Although a major tourist attraction, this really is a must see village. On the day we visited there were hardly any people there (which made it all the better). Our stay included a very enjoyable lunch where we managed to find some shade from the mid-day sun. The mountain air was very refreshing and helped us build our strength before some retail therapy amongst the tourist shops of the lower village. The prices were very good for this type of place and we came away with some little ornaments for our villa. Pictures of the village are to be found in the Guadalest page.
For the final leg of the journey back to Villamartin we decided to take the high pass road over the mountain ranges to Alcoy where we got really lost. However, we eventually found the Alicante road and was soon on our way back to our villa with some amazing memories. We will definately be visiting Fon’t D’Algar and Guadalest again.
