The old town is accesed on foot via a tunnel cut into the rocks. Views from the walls of the citadel are spectacular, especially of the lake that lies at the foot of the valley floor. When I first saw it my mouth fell open at the depth of colour and beauty of the lake which you feel you are almost looking down on. Although Guadalest is a major tourist attraction, this really is a must see village. We enjoyed lunch in the shade and with the fresh mountain air before some shopping amongst the tourist shops of the lower village.
